Analysis

The movie is centered on the life of a young poet who fell in love with a performer. It emphasizes the impact of intellectual, aesthetic and scientific development to the society. It is an unusual film in many aspects. It has the over-enforced and hyperbolic musical elements. It utilized intense colors and bold details of the set and costume.

The film is considered to be a literary film because many of the ideas that shape it have a long literary history. The concept of intertextuality is there in as much as, many scenes from the movie were based from the previous literary accounts, one of which is the famous, "Romeo and Juliet"

Design

Design

by Robert Frost

I found a dimpled spider, fat and white,
On a white heal-all, holding up a moth
Like a white piece of rigid satin cloth—
Assorted characters of death and blight
Mixed ready to begin the morning right,
Like the ingredients of a witches’ broth—
A snow-drop spider, a flower like a froth,
And dead wings carried like a paper kite.

What had that flower to do with being white,
The wayside blue and innocent heal-all?
What brought the kindred spider to that height,
Then steered the white moth thither in the night?
What but design of darkness to appall?--
If design govern in a thing so small.
--- 1922

  Analysis: Deconstruction

The 14-line poem is called an Italian sonnet or Petrarchan sonnet.  This sonnet is composed of two stanzas, the first is composed of eight lines while six lines comprised the second. It follows the usual rhyme scheme "ABBA" since the first line rhymes with the fourth line and the second line rhymes with the third line. However, there  is a shift in the rhyming structure of the second stanza. The rhyme structure became "ACAACC.

In addition, the sonnet follows the Iambic pentameter which means that each line is ten syllables- five unstressed and five stressed syllables. (study.com)

The author introduced to us the three  characters of this poem namely, the spider, the flower, and the moth. The poem gradually develops into a series of contradictory pictures. The usually black spider, , the blue  heal-all plant(flower) and the moth are colored white which is very ironic. As Jarrell notes,  most details of the poem are intended to heighten the grim contrast between the potential innocence and the actual  horror of the scene.

Structuralist Approach

Olay Advertisement

Scene
The husband is having dinner with his wife. As they sat idly waiting for their food, he noticed that there is this radiant glow in his wife's face. He thought all along that it is because of the effect of the candle-lit place. He even throw the candles at the top of their cake to make sure his eyes were not playing tricks on him. It was later revealed that his wife is using Olay facial products and these all, made the difference.\

Analysis:

In this advertisement, there are lots of binary opposition though mostly, they are implied. There is this strategic presentation of the the effects of the product to the consumer. At first, they present the dry and wrinkled skin or the scene before the product was used followed by the healthy, fresh-looking and blemish-free skin after a couple of weeks of using the products. The advertisement also played the inner feelings of the target consumer-women, when it depicted the scene wherein the husband became more attracted to his wife because of the superficial beauty she got from using the products.
